Based on Mr. Zuraihi Maaz experiences in teaching Mandarin as a second language for the past 13 years , we have come to realize that there is a need in simplifying the method of teaching and learning how to speak in Mandarin, specifically targeted to native speakers of Bahasa Baku. These non-native speakers are those who are familiar with the Bahasa Baku/Bahasa Nusantara style of spelling and communicating. With that in mind, we have come up with a module called “KWIK MANDARIN” which caters to this need. Based on the demand as well as the acceptance of this teaching method, we have conceptualized and developed the KWIK MANDARIN. “KWIK” equals to “QUICK” in English. “KWIK” is a direct spelling of Bahasa Baku which the pronunciation is same as the original spelling. In other words, “ “KWIK MANDARIN” means learn Mandarin’s pronunciation through direct spelling of Bahasa Baku instead of conventional way which requires students to recognized Chinese Characters and understand the HanyuPinyin System. Existing methods of teaching Mandarin is more of a conventional style, in classrooms, involving teacher-student interaction. Although this style is considered effective, we find that having an interactive mode of learning such as an electronic learning or e-learning will enhance the student’s learning experience. E-learning is known to draw in many benefits such as on-demand availability as well as self-pacing, which is vital when learning a new language.
E-learning also offers consistent delivery and reduces overall cost, which are appealing to agencies and corporate. As such, we would like to develop the KWIK MANDARIN method into an internet-based Mandarin language training system which will be integrated with multimedia, graphic and animation.

Nur Shahirah Shafiqah hold a diploma in Creative Multimedia from College Yayasan Pendidikan Cheras iT-web. Syera loves designing graphic in Photoshop and taking pictures. She upgrade skills by joining Kwik Mandarin. Here, she realized that she can learn a lot of new thing and at the same time learning Mandarin where it was required in Malaysia.
